Best New Music: Blue Eyed Shadow – Dutch Door Action

I like nothing more than a good revival. My favourite revival of all was the recent 80’s revival. I really got off on how the kids were interpreting 80’s fashions and music, making it their own. I felt sad when I realised it was on the way out, making room for the next big thing to come and rock my world. Well imagine my surprise when the next big thing was the 80’s revival revival band, Blue Eyed Shadow with their intoxicating mix of 80’s revivalist revivalism brought bang up to date with current political moods, fashions and technology. In the words of 80′s athlete Daley Thompson, I’m so happy I could shit!
Blue Eyed Shadow’s first record Dutch Door Action is a pastiche of 80’s revivalism with a good ole’ mid 2010 kick in the vagina to wake it up a bit. Rumour has it that lead singer Paddy Shoulder invoked the spirit of the late 2000’s 80’s revival by first commissioning Dulux to create a spray denim paint so he could wear the tightest looking pair of skinny jean known to man (bare in mind that paint shrinks as it dries, which could go somewhere towards explaining his unmistakable/unlistenable ultra-high falsetto shrieks).
This album is teeming with revival goodness, not dissimilar to that guy I hit while drinking 4% driving-beer (Fosters) in my car the other day (after the paramedics turned up of course. At first he was just fucked up).
